Abstract: Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic appendectomy using a transumbilical self-made single-hole endoscope. MethodsA total of 90 patients with acute appendicitis who were admitted in our hospital from January 2016 to November 2016 were randomly divided into two groups: a control group (who underwent three-hole laparoscopic appendectomy) and an observation group (who received transumbilical self-made single-hole laparoscopic appendectomy). Then, both groups were compared for surgical efficacy. ResultsCompared with the control group, improvements were found in the observation group as to hospitalization stay and cost, postoperative pain, anal exhausting and postoperative cosmetic satisfaction (P<0.05), with remarkable extended operation time (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in blood loss and complications between the two groups (P>0.05). ConclusionsAppendectomy can be carried out using a transmbilical self-made single-hole endoscope, which is safe and reliable, and beneficial for rapid rehabilitation and can improve cosmetic effects. It is worthy to be widely applied in clinical practice.
