Abstract:
ObjectiveTo evaluate the application of depilation by 755 nm Alexandrite laser in ear reconstruction through full expansion method. MethodsA total of 30 adolescent patients with microtia were chosen and underwent ear reconstruction through full expansion method. At Stage 1, a 100 ml kidney-shaped expander was inserted in the mastoid region. After injection with 80 ml water, depilation was performed by laser with reference to the area about the healthy ear without hair. The depilation parameters, time interval, appearance and complications were recorded. At Stage 2, the expansion volume reached 150 ml and total auricular reconstruction was performed through osteochondral autograft. At Stage 3, earlobe transposition, tragus reconstruction and concha deepening were carried out. ResultsAll patients were depilated three to five times, without skin necrosis or dilator leakage. Only one case of skin blisters was reported. The remarkably effective rate was 90% (27/30). The effective rate was 100% (30/30). Conclusions Depilation by 755 nm Alexandrite laser in ear reconstruction produces obvious efficacy, with few complications. It can provide abundant non-hair skin area and greatly improve the appearance of reconstructed the pinna of the ear and e skin graft, with good efficacy in adolescent patients.
