Abstract:
ob<x>jective: To assess the evolution of etiologic features and antiepileptic drug (AED) treatment patterns in Intensive Care Unit from 2017 to 201 9.Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed by collecting the medical records of patients newly diagnosed with epilepsy in Xuzhou Central Hospital from December 201 7 to December 201 9. Patients were followed until the end of data availability. Results: Among 1 99 patients, cerebrovascular disorder was the most common cause in groups of adults (28.6%) and elderly individuals (78.1%). Cerebral trauma (20%) was the major cause of symptomatic epilepsy among children. More than 46.6% of participants were using AED monotherapy. Valproic acid (VPA) was the AED most frequently utilized as monotherapy (76.9%) and within multitherapy (91.7%). Conclusions: Our data showed that the etiologic features varied with the age of patients with epilepsy. Cerebrovascular disorders are the most common cause of epilepsy among adults and elderly individuals . VPA is widely used for the treatment of epilepsy in Xuzhou
