Clinical value of FD-OCT in middle-aged and elderly patients with traumatic macular disease

    • Objective To investigate the clinical value of FD-OCT in the diagnosis of traumatic macular disease. Methods A total of 80(80 eyes) middle-aged and elderly patients aged 50 years and above with traumatic macular disease were studied. All patients were diagnosed by fluorescein fundus angiography(FFA),frequency domain optical coherence tomography(FD-OCT) and confocal laser tomography Heidelberg Retinal Tomography(HRT).The results of FFA diagnosis were taken as gold standard, and the advantages and disadvantages of FD-OCT(FD-OCT group) and HRT(HRT group) were analyzed and compared. Results The positive detection rates of vitreous warts, choroidal neovascularization, retinal epithelial detachment and map-like atrophy in FD-OCT group were significantly higher than those in HRT group(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The accuracy and specificity of FD-OCT were significantly better than those of HRT(P<0.05),and the sensitivity of FD-OCT was also significantly better than that of HRT(P<0.05).In the positive detection rate of macular lesions, the coincidence rate of FD-OCT diagnosis and gold standard test results was higher(P<0.05).Conclusion This study indicates that FD-OCT is more accurate with less damage to eye tissues in the diagnosis of traumatic macular disease in middle-aged and elderly patients, which is conducive to its early diagnosis and treatment.
