Abstract
Objective To investigate the anti-fatigue effects of Panax Japonicus and its counterfeit Disporopsis pernyi. Methods The mice were divided into three groups: control group, Panax Japonicus group and Disporopsis pernyi group. The swimming time and death time of mice were measured by exhaustive swimming test and normobaric hypoxia tolerance test. The levels of blood urea nitrogen, lactate dehydrogenase, and lactate as well as liver weight coefficient were also measured. Results Compared with the control group, the extract of Panax Japonicus could significantly increase the exhaustive swimming time and the normobaric hypoxia tolerance time in mice, reduce the levels of urea nitrogen, blood lactate dehydrogenase and blood lactate in mice, and increase liver weight coefficient. Both Panax Japonicus and Disporopsis pernyi could increase the liver weight coefficient, but there was no significant difference between the Disporopsis pernyi group and the control group. Conclusions Panax Japonicus has the effect of alleviating exercise fatigue, while Disporopsis pernyi is not a substitute for it.
