Effects of full crown restoration on the treatment of wisdom teeth correction and appearance in college students

    • Objective To explore the effects of full crown restoration on the treatment of wisdom teeth correction and appearance in college students. Methods A total of 250 college students with impacted mandibular wisdom teeth were selected and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group. The observation group received full crown restoration, while the control group was given routine conventional treatment. After treatment, both groups were compared for the content of stress mediators in the gingival crevicular fluid, food impaction, cheek biting congestion, pericoronitis and the satisfaction rates on appearance. Results Three days after treatment, both groups produced remarkably higher levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), reactive oxygen species (ROS), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the gingival crevicular fluid than those before treatment (P<0.05), as well as markedly lower levels of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) than those before treatment (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, college student in the observation group produced remarkably reduced levels of PPARγ, ROS and MDA (P<0.05), as well as marked increased levels of GPx and T-AOC (P<0.05). The observation group presented remarkable decreases in the percentage of students with food impaction compared with the control group (serve: 3.2% vs 13.6%; mild: 6.4% vs 14.4%) and marked increases in the percentage of students without food impaction (90.4%) compared with the control group (72.0%). The observation group demonstrated an obviously higher percentage of students without cheek biting congestion (90.4%) than the control group (71.2%). The percentage of severe pericoronitis in the observation group was remarkably lower than that of the control group (92.0%), and the percentage of patients without pericoronitis in the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (80.0%). Students in the observation group showed a remarkably higher satisfactory rate on appearance (96.8%) than those in the control group (82.4%), with statistical significance between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusions Full crown restoration has good effects on the treatment of wisdom teeth correction in college students, improve appearance, and is worth being prompted.
