Abstract
Objective To explore the nursing procedures conducted by ophthalmic professional nurses and the effects in the perioperative period of multiple consecutive cataract surgeries of phacoemulsification. Methods A total of 172 cataract patients admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College from September 2011 to May 2015 were selected in this study. A total of 100 patients undergoing multiple consecutive surgeries from September 2011 to December 2013 were taken as a control group, and 72 patients undergoing consecutive surgeries from January 2014 to May 2015 were taken as an observation group. The control group received routine perioperative nursing care, while the observation group received proactive nursing care conducted by ophthalmic professional nurses on the basis of routine nursing care. Results The operation interval of consecutive cataract surgeries in the observation group was (35.24 ±2.33) min, which was significantly shorter than that of the control group (55.09±2.18) min, P<0.05. The patients who could not be picked up on time were 2 patients (2.8%) in the observation group, which was significantly lower than that of the control group 19 patients (19.0%), P<0.05. The incidence of nursing risks such as perioperative verification omission, ineffective monitoring, risk of infection, improper procedures and defective equipment application in the observation group was 4.2%, while that in the control group was 15.0%. The incidence of nursing risks in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The satisfaction rate of patients for perioperative nursing in the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (98.6% vs. 89.0%, P<0.05). Conclusions The nursing cooperation of ophthalmic professional nurses in the perioperative period of multiple consecutive cataract surgeries of phacoemulsification can improve the surgical efficiency, enhance the effects of nurse-patient and doctor-patient communication, and reduce the occurrence of nursing risk events.
