Expression and significance of miR-214 and PTEN in gastric cancer tissues infected by Helicobacter pylori

    • Objective To study the expression and significance of miR-214, PTEN in gastric cancer tissues infected with Helicobacter pylori (HP).Methods A total of 66 patients with gastric cancer infected with HP who were treated at the First People's Hospital of Xuzhou from June 2016 to June 2019 were selected. Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the levels of miR-214 and immunohistochemistry was employed to determine the expression of PTEN in gastric cancer tissues and adjacent tissues. The relationship between the levels of miR-214 and PTEN and the clinical-pathological features of gastric cancer patients was analyzed. After postoperative follow-up, the relationship between miR-214 and PTEN levels and the prognosis of the patients was explored. Results Compared with adjacent tissues, gastric cancer tissues showed higher levels of miR-214 (P<0.05) and lower positive expression rates of PTEN (P<0.05). MiR-214 and PTEN were associated with TNM stage and distant metastasis (P<0.05) but not with age, gender, or tumor diameter (P>0.05). MiR-214 was significantly negatively correlated with PTEN (P<0.05). The mean survival time of patients with high expression of miR-214 was significantly shorter than that of patients with low expression of miR-214 (P<0.05). Gastric cancer patients with negative PTEN expression had significantly shorter average survival time than those with positive PTEN expression (P<0.05).Conclusions MiR-214 is highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues infected with HP, and PTEN has a low positive expression rate. The expression of miR-214 and PTEN is closely related to the prognosis of gastric cancer patients infected with HP.
