Research progress on the mechanism of ferroptosis and its correlation with ovarian cancer

    • Ovarian cancer (OC) is the deadliest malignant tumor in the female reproductive system, with high early concealability, which is difficult to detect, and easy to produce drug resistance. The prognosis of OC after treatment is not optimistic, which brings great challenges to clinical treatment. Ferroptosis is a unique form of cell death mediated by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, which is different from apoptosis, pyrodeath and necrosis in terms of mechanism, morphology and genetics. Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis may regulate the pathogenesis of OC and become a potential intervention target for OC treatment. This article reviews the mechanism of ferroptosis and its correlation with OC, which can provide new thoughts for the clinical treatment of OC.
